Computer Refurbishing Center
Dr. Langford started the refurbishing efforts of CFTB out of his home. In the early 1990s John Austin, a sighted friend, began helping him. John moved the refurbishing center to his airplane hanger as more space was needed. It was then moved to the basement of a church in Dallas until a larger space was needed.
After all these stops, the Computer Refurbishing Center is now located in Richardson, Texas. We are in the center Monday through Thursday and Saturday working on equipment and shipping computers. The Center is staffed by many volunteers, donating their time to getting these computers set up and sent to our clients. Some of them have even been working over 20 years! We provide all the training and materials to work with us here.
We recently underwent some major modifications to make room for more volunteers and equipment, as our volume has increased greatly. We added more desks for our staff and more shelving for our machines. We hope to continue to grow and add more people to our group. If you are interested in coming to the center to volunteer contact us!
Come Visit Us!
Computers for the Blind has moved! We are in the same business park, but our office has moved to suite 206. Don't worry, it is next door to our old suite, so it should be easy to locate us!
Visitors and prospective volunteers are always welcome to come see our process and meet us. No appointment or advance notice needed. We also accept donated computers at the Center and financial donations or payments can be mailed to or dropped off here.
